I love Google Analytics. I am, by no means, a whizz at it, and definitely don't use it to its fullest potential, but the information it kicks up is always super-interesting. Having just gone past the half-way stage of the month, I wanted to do a check up on traffic through the site. One of the metrics I always really enjoy checking is the number of different countries that I've had visitors from. Over the last month, I've had the biggest spread yet - 18 countries! That easily beats my previous record on my old site (Some Good Feathers) which was 11 :) Here's the list of countries I've had readers from, in order from most readers to fewest:
1. South Africa
2. United Kingdom
3. United States
4. South Korea
5. Netherlands
6. Zimbabwe
7. Australia
8. Nigeria
9. Kuwait
10. Germany
11. Tanzania
12. Sweden
13. Bahrain
14. Canada
15. New Zealand
16. Saudi Arabia
17. China
18. Ireland
So, five different continents! One of my goals is to have visitors from all seven continents at some point (anybody got any friends or family doing research in Antartica?), but definitely getting there :) What warms my little heart the most is that I've had readers from four African countries - it's normally only two at the most - so it looks like writing for a couple of regional publications is paying off...
I won't go into too many of the other metrics, but one that was also interesting was the amount of time that each nation's readers spent on the site on average. Those who spent the longest were from the Netherlands, followed by South Korea and then New Zealand. These are obviously the places to be if you enjoy your free time!
